to children & their families:
Your local school
If you have no school in your parish, you are
in a minority. If children are not coming to church,
we have the opportunity to take 'Church' to them
via schools.
Most schools welcome good quality input into
school assemblies. The National Curriculum includes
a visit to a local Christian place of worship
and we make the most of this opportunity, providing
something more imaginative and appealing than
a simple tour of the Church.
Open the Book
Projects
like Open The Book, a Bible storytelling initiative,
equips lay people to deliver a Bible story each
week, thereby providing a ready-made tool for
linking with the local school. In this diocese,
this initiative is growing, with many schools
appreciating the Church's input. Many children
are hearing Bible stories for the first time in
this way, from people who they recognise from
their community.

SCAT
Also,
SCAT the Schools' Christian Assembly Team, aim
'To bring the Christian message to primary school
children through the Bible stories which are delivered
with music, humour and drama.'
SCAT is a group of currently six volunteers
who give their talents, time and energy to deliver
a Christian drama based assembly to many primary
schools across the county. They have been visiting
many schools for over a decade and visit around
70 schools with each tour.
The team are currently preparing a presentation
for the Autumn/Spring term.
Some recent comments about SCAT:
“A positive contribution to our inspection
week” A Head Teacher
“Your performance was wonderful…Thank
you for your inspiration” A Head Teacher
“ It was really, really good and I really
loved all of it” A pupils letter
“I loved the jokes” A pupils
comment
The SCAT team are always on the look out for
new members and with so many schools wanting a
SCAT visit, we could easily be operating two days
a week if we had the people. If you are fit, energetic,
enjoy drama and believe it is important to be
introducing children to the Bible in a fun, age
appropriate way and you have some time available,
why not ring Helen
and find out more. |
