The Bishop of Repton, Humphrey Southern, will lead a special service dedicating two pieces of religious art at St Peter's Church, Parwich, on Sunday 6th July 2008 (6pm).
Bishop Southern will dedicate a life-sized replica of a Norman tympanum (stone carving), the oldest feature of the church, as well as a new stained glass window on the theme of the Annunciation.
Christopher Harrison, Vicar of Parwich and Rural Dean of Ashbourne, said today: "We are delighted that two splendid, but very different, examples of religious art, are being dedicated this weekend."
He added: "The tympanum is a striking memorial to early Christianity in the village, and the window is wonderful contemporary expression of a timeless spiritual theme, produced by one of the outstanding stained glass artists of our generation."
The details of the window are at parwich.org/2008/06/17/new-window-in-st-peters-church and background notes about the tympanum are at www.parwichvillage.co.uk/pdfs/Background-Notes.pdf. The church website is www.ashbournechurches.org/Parwich.htm
