The Bishop of Derby, Alastair Redfern, has
invited representatives from the deaneries in his Diocese
to four special evenings to share his vision for the future.
Dr. Redfern has invited parishes to share their thoughts
on key issues relating to the Church of England’s work
and mission in the area. He has been encouraged by their
responses.
“I am organising four evenings. Each deanery will
be invited to one of these evenings and I will be able to
share my thoughts for the future and listen to what is being
said in the parishes,” said the Bishop today.
Deaneries are groupings of churches which work together
as clergy and laity as part of the structure of the Church
of England.
The Glossop, Buxton, Bakewell & Eyam and Wirksworth
deaneries will meet with the Bishop of Thursday 13th November
at St.John’s Buxton. It will be the turn of Chesterfield
(North & South), Bolsover & Staveley and Alfreton
to meet Dr. Redfern as deaneries a week later (20th November)
at St John’s, Walton.
St.Alkmund’s Derby will host the Bishop’s Visitation
for the Ashbourne, Longford, Duffield, Heanor and Derby North
deaneries on Thursday 27th November. The remaining deaneries
of Derby South, Repton, Melbourne and Erewash will gather
at St Michael with St Mary Melbourne on Monday 1st December.
The Bishop will then reflect further on his findings over
the Advent period in the lead up to Christmas.
